The Department of Classics at San Francisco State University invites applications for part-time lecturer positions (non-tenure track) in Classics for the Fall 2024-Spring 2025 terms.
The Department of Classics at San Francisco State University was founded in 1965 and is one of only three such departments in the CSU, and the only one of these to offer an M.A. degree in Classics. It is also one of only two departments in the state of California to offer a teaching credential subject certification in Latin. The Department of Classics provides opportunities for excellent training in ancient language and literature (both in translation and in the original) as well as material culture and archaeology, taking a broad interpretation of Mediterranean Classics that includes ancient Egypt and Mesopotamia. We are committed to the big picture, drawing connections to the larger world of humanities and to the 21st-century society in which we live: ancient Greece and Rome for the modern world. Some of our students go on to pursue Ph.D.'s in Classics at the most well-respected universities in the country, and others bring their expertise in the ancient world to a variety of exceptional related careers.
