Position Description

Job Summary

This position is responsible for performing, either independently or in conjunction with other Student Financial Services staff, a wide range of general and/or specialized administrative, technical, and analytical duties in direct support of the University Cashiers, and in connection with other related support offices such as Financial Aid and Payroll Services.  This position will generally be supervised by and take direction from the Assistant Director of Student Financial Services, but may also take direction from the Director of Student Financial Services.

Department Summary

As a section of the University Financial Services (UFS) Department, Student Financial Services is responsible for charging, collection, receipt, and reporting of all student fees in accordance with state, CSU, and University policies.  Student Financial Services includes the operations of Student Accounts and University Cashiers.  In addition to responsibility for student fees, Student Financial Services is responsible for ensuring the proper receipting and safeguarding of payments and deposits made to the University, administration of payroll and student refund disbursements, and accounting for student’s financial activities in accordance with federal, state, CSU, and University policies. Student Financial Services plays an integral role within the University’s finance group, as well as in many of the accounting functions.  Because of this relationship, Student Financial Services is responsible for providing critical University accounting information for use in other finance areas and must also interact and perform duties with other finance areas in order to gather accounting information, perform reconciliations, and resolve problems.

Key Qualifications

  • Ability to apply accounting procedures and practices to the analysis of basic accounting problems, the ability to analyze and interpret basic accounting data, and to apply problem solving techniques in finding solutions to basic accounting problems.
  • Ability to review financial documents for accuracy, completeness, validity, and adherence to standards.
  • Ability to resolve problems via the application of departmental procedures.
  • Ability to post transactions or other repetitive entries rapidly and accurately, and the ability to independently identify, trace and correct any errors that may occur.
  • Demonstrated ability to use tact and diplomacy to effectively handle a broad range of high level and sensitive interpersonal situations with diverse personalities, and to respond appropriately to conflicts and problems.

Education and Experience

  • Equivalent to three years of progressively responsible financial record-keeping experience which has provided the above knowledge and abilities.
  • Any equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge and abilities.

Salary and Benefits

Anticipated Hiring Range: $54,000 - $62,000 Per Year

Classification Range: $46,464 - $77,136 Per Year

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Anticipated Hiring Range referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Classification Range may be broader than what the University anticipates paying for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).

Supplemental Information

Satisfactory completion of a background check (including a criminal records check) is required for employment.
